Residential care for children and young people.

Providing a safe, secure and nurturing environment designed to harness, develop and sustain the hopes, talents and aspirations of children.

We believe children and young people are generally best looked after within their own families. Where this is not possible, placements should provide the nurturing and supportive care needed to enhance their development. We believe every child and young person deserves a chance to achieve their potential, that behaviour can change for the better and no one is beyond help.

Residential care can play an essential role in the care and support of children and young people. It offers a secure and predictable environment in which they can form attachments with staff. This provides a solid base from which they may learn from their mistakes, respect others, and develop the confidence and emotional strength to move on to a more permanent long-term placement or effectively transition into independent living.

About the home

Ancora Children’s Homes’ Westborough House is a spacious two-storey three bedded residential children’s home designed to home young people aged 8 – 17 years old of all genders, ethnicity, religion or cultural background.

The home has rooms with high ceilings and a small courtyard garden at the front and at the back of the house. The house provides residential accommodation for three young people of any gender, each with a single room of their own. On admission, young people are encouraged to personalise their bedroom to their taste and style.

The home offers short, medium or long-term residential placements. The age range of children will be considered as part of the matching process and a detailed impact risk assessment taking into account the current young people and their individualised care plans. We work with a range of young people with special educational needs, some of whom may have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

We offer a welcoming and supportive environment recognising that the children cared for are valued as individuals. It is our belief that children are entitled to a high standard of care, and we therefore aim to provide a physically and emotionally safe environment that is warm and homely, that allows each young person to experience being a child with consistent, stable structures and boundaries. We aim to support children and young people to reach their full potential and if appropriate, prepare to return home, live in a new placement or live independently as a young adult.

With support, guidance and assistance, we aim to:

  1. Work within the Care Plan as agreed with the Local Authority and to rehabilitate the young person within a structured environment.
  2. Provide short, medium and long-term residential care placement.

The young people who come to live at this home will be offered an on-going assessment and a programme of social care, promoting education, providing a stimulating environment where young people have the opportunity to reach their potential.

Our aims

We strongly believe every young person we look after has the potential for positive change irrespective of the circumstances which necessitated their placement. We seek to maximise each young person’s potential for social and educational growth and development by working in partnership with education, health, social workers and families to provide a nurturing environment.

Our overall aims and objectives are:

  • To ensure that children and young people in Ancora Children’s Homes are protected from significant harm, whether it is emotional, physical, sexual abuse, neglect or bullying.
  • To ensure children and young people placed in Ancora Children’s Homes are provided with a supportive environment that offers stability and consistency.
  • To work in partnership with Placing Authorities and Significant Others that have an interest in the well-being of the young person in meeting their needs.
  • To promote and develop the young person’s emotional, physical, social, educational and cultural / religious needs.
  • To support and encourage young people views, participation and involvement in their overall care.
